Cougars Rally for Extra-Inning Win Against Oxnard, 7-6

Cuesta Softball kept themselves in playoff contention with an extra-inning win over Oxnard, 8-7. The Cougars are, currently, in a three-way tie for Second Place in the Western State Conference (WSC) and one of the circuit's two automatic playoff berths.  The Cougars jumped out early against the visiting Condors and held a 5-1 lead with six outs left in the game.  The visiting Condors rallied for a pair of runs in both the 6th and 7th innings, while also holding the Cougars scoreless, to force the Cougars into their first extra-inning game since their season opener against LA Mission.   The Cougars beat Mission on opening day and also rallied to beat Oxnard today, although the Condors did not make it easy.  Oxnard scored five runs over the game's final three innings, including the "go-ahead" run in the 8th inning.  The Cougars, trailing,6-5, for the first time in the game, got straight to work in their final at bat.  Freshman Outfielder Sophia Edwards ignited their rally with a leadoff single and scored three batters later to tie the game on Brooklyn Neenan's pinch-hit single.  Neenan crossed the plate with the deciding run on the next play, a RBI-base-hit by Addison Finegan.  It was a close call for the Cougars, but they passed the test and claimed the win.  Cuesta is now 17-12 overall and 7-3 in the WSC for a three-way tie for 2nd place with Moorpark and Santa Barbara.

Cuesta continues to catch up on its early season rain-delay games and shall remain at home this Saturday (12/2 PM) to host Coalinga for a doubleheader.  The visiting Falcons are members of the Central Valley Conference and play in the CCCAA's Northern Region.  Coalinga is currently 9-15 on the season.
