Cuesta Softball finished the 2025 campaign with an impressive 23-15 record and in Third Place in the Western State Conference, but despite their status the Cougars were denied a second straight trip to the post-season, while making room for lesser teams brandishing an automatic conference bid. The Cougars final win of the season was a victory over #15 Citrus, 7-5, a current playoff team. The Cougars, despite missing the post-season, landed seven members of their squad named to the all-Western State Conference teams.
2025 All-WSC First Team Shortstop Danya Boyd (pict) made the transition to the pivot after spending her first season at Cuesta holding down the "Hot Corner". Boyd anchored the middle of the Cougars' defense and batted clean-up in their batting order. Her ten doubles, five triples, and seven home runs were all team-highs. She also paced the squad with 44 runs driven in: the 5th best total in program history. Boyd also ranks 2nd all-time with 76 career runs batted in.
Sophomore Hailey Hallford and Freshman Addison Finegan joined Boyd on the loop's top squad. Hallford, picked up her second all-WSC First Team accolade of the year, after also earning accolades during the Fall as Midfielder for the Cougars Soccer team, while Finegan became this season's most decorated freshman. Hallford was a dominant midfielder for soccer and covered just as much ground as a centerfielder in softball. Her range in the yard made her a friend to the pitching staff, while her speed on the basepaths helped her to both a team-high eight stolen bases and a .420 batting average. Finegan, who had the luxury of hitting ahead of Boyd, scored a team-high 33 runs, while also driving in 29 runs of her own. She also tied Boyd with a team-high 10 doubles and launched five home runs.
Pitcher Shelbi Griffith and Outfielder Abigail Haller were both named to the all-WSC Second Team. Griffith was the Cougars' de-facto "Ace" in their pitching rotation, while both she and fellow Hurler Sienna Lowry each boasted a 10-7 record on the season. Griffith worked a staff-best 128 innings, including 14 complete games, while posting a 3.99 ERA. Haller batted a solid .333 on the season, but thanks to a dozen walks, her .462 on-base percentage trailed only Boyd's .474 in the line-up. She also made the most of her time on-base and her 30 runs scored ranked third amongst the Cougars, trailing only Boyd (32) and Finegan (33).
Catcher Brielle Burt, the Cougars' starting Backstop, and First Baseman Maddie Sheadel, who batted .320 on the year and was third on the team with 23 RBI, were both accorded all-WSC Honorable Mention after their first season with the "Green and Black".
