Women's Basketball Falls in WSC Match-Up to #13 Ventura

Women's Basketball fell to powerhouse #13 Ventura, 80-47, on Wednesday in a Western State Conference home game.  The Cougars have not beaten Ventura since 1995 and the visiting Bucs kept their streak alive by quickly taking control of the game.  Ventura jumped on the Cougars by taking a 20-1 lead in the first quarter.  Luckily, Cuesta regained some composure and started knocking down shots and outscored the Pirates, 17-13, to head into halftime down, 33-18.  Ventura's offense continued at full tilt after the intermission and pushed through to victory, 80-47.  Ventura's Returning All-State Guard Kenya Edelhart led all scorers with 26 points, while her teammate Kylie Gallick added a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 20 rebounds.  Sophomore Guard Sam Watanabe and Freshman Forward Sydney Howe (pict) paced the Cougars with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Howe also tied for the team lead with four rebounds.  The setback dropped the Cougars to 9-15 on the season and 2-6 against the Western State Conference.

Cuesta travels to Santa Maria on Saturday (3 PM) to face local rival Allan Hancock.  The Bulldogs outlasted the Cougars, 83-74, in their first meeting back on January 11 in SLO.
