Women's Basketball improved to 7-2 on the season with a win over visiting Monterey Peninsula, 65-44. The Cougars took control of the game with a run and gun point per minute offense to take a 40-17 lead into the intermission. The Lobos adjusted after halftime, but Cuesta still outscored them, 14-12, in the third quarter, before the visitors posted a 15-11 difference in the final frame to close the gap to 65-44. Cuesta's Sophomore Forward Sydney Howe (pict) led all scorers with 19 points in the game, while also knocking down five of her 11 attempts from three-point territory. Howe also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, which left her one carom short of a double-double. Freshman Guard Karla Lukas scored 11 points and was the only other Cuesta player to each double-digits in the contest, however her backcourtmate Bella Musolff also put on a show. Musolff dished out eight assists in the contest, while adding seven points of her own. Musolff's assist total makes her the third different Cuesta player this season to distribute eight or more assists in a game this season. The first-year Point Guard also earned herself a spot among Cuesta Top 20 Assist games (since 2000).
Tonight's victory marks the Cougars final home game until they host Ventura on January 13. Cuesta is on the road at Reedley and Las Positas next Wednesday (5 PM) and Friday (4 PM). The Cougars shall also compete in the Grossmont Tournament in El Cajon on December 17, 18 and 19.
