Women's Basketball Seeks Homecourt Advantage this Week

Women's Basketball returns to Cuesta's Stork Gymnasium for two Western State Conference games this week.  The Cougars shall play the nightcap in a pair of men's and women's doubleheaders and Los Angeles Pierce and Santa Barbara City.  Cuesta hosts Los Angeles Pierce on Wednesday (7 PM) and Santa Barbara on Saturday (5 PM).  The game against the Brahmas marks the final game of Cuesta's first run through the WSC circuit.  Both teams are tied for 5th in the circuit with a 1-4 mark.  The Cougars who began the season with an 11-3 record are currently 12-9 and looking to regain their form.  The Cougars will also get a chance for revenge as they begin the loop's second round against Santa Barbara City.  The Vaqueros edged the Cougars, 63-57, in Santa Barbara on February 10 and sent Cougars on a three-game losing streak to open the WSC schedule.  Cuesta currently sits in 24th place RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) in the CCCAA's Southern Region, which is one of the criteria to earn one of the 24 regional playoff spots.  Pierce is not far behind in 27th, while Santa Barbara City remains in range in 21stplace.  All three teams have at least six more games to make their post-season case.

Last Saturday, Cuesta's Cagers fell on the road to #4 Moorpark, 73-27.  The Raiders kept the Cougars to single digits in all four quarters, while Sophomore Forward Abigail Lacy (pict) led the team with just seven points.   The setback marked the Cougars' lowest scoring game since scoring 22 points in a loss to Ventura in 2018.
