Women's Basketball opened the 2024-25 campaign with a pair of wins but have since dropped four of their past five contests, including two road games last week. The Cougars travelled South to San Diego on Friday to play Grossmont and laced-up against Fullerton on Saturday as they made their way back to SLO. The Cougars entered the week ranked #12 in the South Region's RPI Poll, but Grossmont and Fullerton were within striking distance at 16th and 19th, respectively.
In San Diego, the Cougars jumped out early and took a 33-29 lead into halftime, however the host Griffins tied the game in the 3rd quarter and cruised to the victory, 77-59, when foul problems exposed the Cougars' short bench in the final period. After trailing most of the contest, Grossmont enjoyed a 27-10 scoring advantage over the final ten minutes. On Saturday, Cuesta took the 100-mile drive from El Cajon to Fullerton for a meeting with the host Hornets. Fullerton took control of the game at the tip-off and posted a 24-7 advantage to open the day against their road weary guests. The Cougars bounced back with a 16-9 advantage in the second quarter but were unable to make a significant dent Fullerton's initial lead. The Hornets outscored the Cougars, 36-31, after the intermission and claimed the win. The brace of setbacks dropped the Cougars to 3-4 on the season.
Women's Basketball shall enjoy a Thanksgiving bye-week and return to action with a three-game homestand the first week of December. The Cougars are set to host Porterville on Wednesday (5 PM) December 4th, El Camino on the 6th (6 PM) and Cabrillo on the 7th (5 PM)
