Cagers Drop Two On the Road- Prep for Conference

Cuesta Women's Basketball burst into their final week of the year riding a bump in the rankings and reaching the State's Top 20 at #17.  The Cougars celebrated their new status with a home victory over Reedley, 99-95, on Wednesday, but ended the week with a pair of setbacks on the road.  The Cougars travelled to the Bay Area for their final non-conference pairings of the season.  On Friday, they battled at #22 San Jose City and were tied with the host Jaguars after the first three quarters, but the Jags held their court in the final period to earn a home win, 62-52.  On Saturday, the Cougars made the short trip to neighboring San Bruno to face Skyline.  Cuesta took an early lead after the first quarter, 18-16, but the two teams were tied at the intermission, 34-34.  The host Trojans took over the game in the second half and held their homecourt, 73-57. Cuesta concluded their pre-conference play with a 9-6 record.

The Cougars, who have dropped to #26, shall not return to the floor until Western State Conference play begins on January 11.  Cuesta shall open WSC play on January 11 (1 PM) in Santa Maria against local rival Allan Hancock.  They will be back in front of the home faithful at Stork Gym on January 15, against #4 Moorpark (5 PM).
