Cuesta Women's Basketball has not played back-to-back home games in over two months, but they will get a chance to stay home for a pair of Western State Conference games this week. On Wednesday (5 PM), the women shall lead off a men's and women's Western State Conference Doubleheader against rival Ventura. The visiting Pirates have won 29 0f the last 32 WSC titles and have not lost to Cuesta since 1995, although the last time they were in SLO they came back to steal the win, 58-57. The Cougars will remain in SLO for the week and host the new LA Mission team on Saturday (3 PM). The Eagles (ne' Free Spirit) are in their first season as a program, but have risen from the ashes, after Los Angeles Pierce dropped its program. Coach Thara Innocent made the move from Woodland Hills to Sylmar, after splitting last season's series with the Cougars, and brought Sophomore Guard Lizeth Valencia with her. LA Mission enters this week with a solid 8-10 overall record.
The Cougars enter this week after posting a 62-point advantage in their victory at Oxnard, 86-24, last Saturday. The victory, at first glance, appears to be the Cougars' fourth largest winning margin in the program's history. In 1982, the program's inaugural season, the Cougars enjoyed a pair of 63-point victories over Gavilan and Lemoore Air Force Base, but Cuesta met the Rams again a decade later to break the record. On November 14,1992, Cuesta hosted Gavilan in SLO for their 1992-93 season debut and won by 76 points, 96-20. The Cougars worst loss was a 78-point setback, 114-36, against WSC Rival Ventura in 2009.
