After Their Historic Win In Ventura, Cougars Look for Playoff Bid

Cuesta Women's Basketball is ranked 18th in the region, according to the Ratings Point Index (RPI), and in 3rd place in the Western State Conference (WSC).  The Cougars reached the playoffs last season, for the first time in a decade, after finishing with a 14-14 record and in 5th place in the WSC, however they plan to do more this season.  Cuesta has two games left in the regular season to book their ticket to the playoffs with hopes to both make the post-season cut and earn the program's first playoff victory since 2006.  Cuesta is, nearly locked, in 3rd place in the WSC standings, while sitting four games behind #4 Moorpark and two-and-a-half games behind WSC Runner-up Santa Barbara with two games to play, however they also own a 1.5 game advantage over local rival Allan Hancock, who is sitting in 4th place.  Cuesta wraps up the regular season with a trip to Sylmar to play LA Mission on Wednesday (6 PM) and look to steal a win against Santa Barbara, when they host the Vaqueros for their regular season finale on Friday (5 PM).  The Cougars will not be able to catch either loop-leader #4 Moorpark or #15 Santa Barbara, in the standings, however a pair of victories this week should get them back to the post-season for their first back-to-back trip since 2014 and 2015.

The Cougars earned a big boost to their potential playoff bid when they travelled to Ventura to defeat their tormentors and conference rivals the Pirates.  On Saturday, the Cougars defeated the Pirates for the first time since 1995, 57-42.  The triumph helped slay the demons of the past three decades, including last year's heartbreaker, 58-57, in SLO, and lifted the 2025 squad to the precipice of legend.  However, that shall be determined this week as they chase the post-season.  Cuesta is 15-10 overall and in 3rd place in the WSC, boasting a 6-4 record against the circuit.
