Women's Basketball Falls to the Olympians in Playoffs

Women's Basketball earned its second straight post-season appearance, after finishing Third in the Western State Conference and posting the program's first winning season since winning their only two games of the pandemic-shortened 2021 campaign.  The Cougars 3rd place finish in the Western State Conference and 17-10 regular season record earned them the 20th-seed in the 24-team CCCAA Southern Regional Bracket and locked them with 13th-seed San Diego Mesa.  The Cougars, the Northern-most team in the Southern Regional, made the trip to San Diego the day before to prepare for the host Olympians.  Both teams had trouble scoring in the opening quarter, but Mesa still owned the lead, 10-6.  The Olympians took charge just before halftime and carried a 30-16 lead into the intermission.  Cuesta stayed close in the second half but were unable to overcome their slow start.   The Cougars left everything on the floor, with three of their starters never stepping off the floor. The team's only sophomores, Guards Reese Pasternik and Bella Musolff joined Freshman Kaylee Batten as they all put in a 40-minute ironman performance.  Pasternik, the program's all-time leading scorer, led the way with team-high 14 points, while Musolff posted nine points and tied her career-high with eight rebounds.  Batten added ten points, while fellow Forward Fiona Durham scored eight points and led the Cougars with nine rebounds. Cuesta finished the season 17-11 overall.

All-Conference and post-season awards shall be announced at the conclusion of the CCCAA Playoffs.
