Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for October is Grappler Humphrey Quirie.
Cuesta hosted the 18th Annual Meathead Mover Wrestling Invitational on October 30 and finished 9th as a team, while boasting the tournament's Outstanding Upper Division Wrestler Humphrey Quirie. Quirie, ranked #2 in the State at 174, dropped down to 165 for the Meathead Invitational and won three of his four bouts by fall to claim the division title. He has wrestled as high at 184 this year and leads the Cougars with 11 wins on the season. Quirie was a State Place Winner (7th) and earned all-SEC honors as a freshman in 2018. He Redshirted in 2019 before losing the 2020 season to the pandemic.
Cuesta Wrestling competes in the 2021 SouthEast Conference Tournament on November 13 and shall host the 2021 CCCAA Regional Wrestling Championships in San Luis Obispo.
