Four Cuesta Grapplers Earn a Trip to the 2021 State Championships

Cuesta Wrestling hosted the 2021 CCCAA Southern California Regional Championship this Saturday and the Cougars qualified four wrestlers for the 2021 CCCAA State Championship next weekend at Cerritos College.  The final team point totals have not been tallied, but the Cuesta Quartet did their job on the mat.  2018 State Place Winner Humphrey Quirie (Tuolumne-pict) will lead the Cuesta contingent as he returns to the sport's ultimate event.  Quirie took 4th place at 165 and will be joined by his daily sparring partner Gabe Carrillo (Simi Valley), who finished 5th at 165.  Freshman Sami Barakat (Danville) also earned 5th place and will compete at 157-pounds next weekend.  The Cougars final representative is Freshman Quinn Patrick (Sacramento).  Patrick is an alternate at the 184-division, after a 7th place finish.

The Cougars last CCCAA State Place Winner was Juan Camacho in 2019, when he claimed 3rd place at 285.  The program's last CCCAA State Champion was Alex Garcia at 174 in 2016.
