Wrestling Edged in Lemoore, Takes 6th in Modesto

Wrestling opened last week with their second SouthEast Conference Dual, this time at West Hills College in Lemoore.  On Friday, Cuesta won four of the nine matches, but an injury-forfeit at heavyweight gave the host Eagles the decision, 27-21.  The loss drops the Cougars to 1-1 in the SEC with two duals left on the schedule.  The Cougars and Eagles met up again at the Modesto Tournament on Saturday.  Both the Eagles and Cougars reached the Top 10 in the tournament standings.  The Cougars took 6th place as a team and were led by a trio of place winners.  2021 Regional Qualifier Quinn Patrick, at 174, and Freshman Leon Tippett (pict-L), at 184, both finished 4th in the event, while Danny Gonzalez (pict-R), at 133, claimed 5th place.  Overall, the Cougars posted a 10-14 record as a team, but also had to default in two divisions due to injury.  The Cougars landed in the middle of the 11-team field with 6th place but also ended the week with three starters on the injured reserve.

This should be a good week for the Cougars have a full two weeks to heal until they host a SEC Double Dual with Moorpark (5 PM) and Victor Valley (6 PM) on the Friday before the 19th Meathead Mover Wrestling Invitational all day Saturday.
