Grapplers Split SEC Duals- Host Meathead Invitational Saturday

12th-ranked Cuesta Wrestling hosted SouthEast Conference foes Moorpark and #8 Victor Valley for a pre-Meathead, SEC tri-meet.  The Cougars split the day with a loss to Victor Valley, 30-22, and a win over Moorpark, 38-16.  The win over the Raiders and loss to the Rams left the Cougars even in their duals this year at 2-2.  2022 State Place Winner Sami Barakat was the only Cougar to win two matches on the mat.  He opened the day with a win over Moorpark's Adan Leyva, 9-1, and floored Victor Valley's Leighland Paz in just over two minutes of action.  Returning all-SEC Grappler Quinn Patrick also joined Freshmen Leon Tippett (pict) and Reily Lowry for a pair of wins each, although they each earned one of their wins by forfeit.  Patrick earned a Major Decision at 174 over Victor Valley's Edward Saldana, 16-3, while also taking a forfeit from Moorpark at 197.   Tippett opened the day with a pin against the Rams' Joseph Robles at 184, in 6:47, and took a forfeit from the Moorpark in the same division.  Lowry earned his Major against Landen DeGennaro, 11-2, of Moorpark and got a forfeit from the Rams at 197.  On the day, Cuesta won 11 of 20 bouts, including four by pin.  As a team, the Cougars are 78-80 in their matches this season.

The wrestling world converges on San Luis Obispo this Saturday (All Day) for the 19th Meathead Mover Wrestling Invitational.  The Cougars shall join today's foes, Moorpark, and Victor Valley, and nearly every team in the State. The Meathead is one of most respected meets in the State and is always a great preview of December's CCCAA State Championship.
