Wrestling Qualifies Six for the CCCAA State Championship

Wrestling finished 10th at the 2022 Southern California Regional Meet in East Los Angeles last Saturday, while also advancing six of their ten grapplers to the CCCAA State Meet.  Freshmen Leon Tippett and Reily Lowry were the Cougars' top performers at the Regionals, where they both placed 4th.  Lowry currently leads the Cougars with 17 wins (against 11 losses) on the season and earned all-SouthEast Conference honors at 174, while Tippett was the SEC's Champion at 184 and boasts a record of 14-10.  All-SEC Wrestler Quinn Patrick returns to the State Meet after qualifying at 165.  This season, Patrick started at 197 and dropped to 165 to reach the State Meet with a 7th place finish.  Last year, Patrick travelled to the State Meet as an alternate but did not get a chance to compete.  Freshman Gabriel Rivera (pict) also qualified with a 7th place finish.  He is 14-10 on the season, all at 125.  Freshman Cael Cooper (pict) and Sophomore Sherman Barney both finished 8th to make the trip to Lemoore for the 2022 CCCAA State Championship.  Cooper, who is only 7-10 on the season, needed one win at the Regional to qualify at 141, while is Barney, at 5-14, will travel as an alternate at 285.

The Cougars travel to Lemoore this Friday and Saturday for the 2022 CCCAA State Championship at West Hills-Lemoore College.
