Cuesta Wrestling made its first foray into the Southern California Region last weekend to compete in the Santa Ana Tournament on Saturday. On their way into the heart of Orange County, the Cougars made a pitstop in East LA on Friday for their first SouthEast Conference Dual. The Cougars crushed the host Huskies, 42-10, while losing only two of their ten bouts. The Cougars kept up their high-level of action with a 6th place finish at Santa Ana, while boasting a trio of place winners. Freshman Grant Eklund (pict-L) led the way by winning an individual title at 157. He ran through the competition with a 4-0 record and, with the addition of his win at East LA, improved to 14-2 on the season. Fellow Freshman Preston Scharf (pict-R) also made a trip up the podium with a Runner-up (3-1) finish at 165, while Chance Evans (4-1) took the Bronze at 197. Overall, the Cougars' 17 grapplers went 38-32 in 70 bouts on the weekend. The Cougars are also currently 1-0 in SEC competition.
Wrestling returns to action in two weeks with the Southern Duals at CERRITOS on October 19.
