
Cuesta Wrestling travelled to Cerritos to attend the Southern Dual Tournament for the first time since 2014 and took 7th place in the tournament. The Cougars posted a 3-2 record in their five duals, while their 15 individual grapplers posted a combined 32-18 mark in their 50 bouts. Freshman Preston Scharf (165, Pict-L) led the way for the Cougars with a perfect 5-0 mark at 165, while Chance Evans (197), Grant Eklund (157) and Dominic Marquez (125, Pict-R) all went 4-1 on the weekend. The Cougars are currently 5-2 in duals this season, which surpasses their win total from the past four seasons. Cuesta's Grapplers have already won 138 matches this season, which surpasses the season total of every season over the past decade. The 2014 team earned 297 individual wins (against 258 losses) and currently holds the program's highest recorded win total.
Wrestling is showing no sign of slowing down and is back in action at full throttle this week. The Cougars have a pair SouthEast Conference Duals and the 21st Meathead Mover Invitational on the docket for this weekend. The Cougars shall host both Moorpark (5:30) and Victor Valley (6:30) in SEC Duals on Friday, before diving into the Meathead Mover competition on Saturday morning. This season marks the first time the Cougars are scheduled to compete in more than ten duals since 2015. Coach Joe Dansby, in his 24th year, ranks second all-time at Cuesta with 121 dual wins. He is the Cougars 6th wrestling coach since 1966 and currently trails only California Wrestling Hall of Famer Gary Meissner's 30-season total of 130 dual wins at Cuesta.
