Cuesta Men's Wrestling hosted 8th-ranked Bakersfield and earned a win, 28-16, in their final home event of the season. The Cougars claimed six of the ten bouts and built a big lead after taking five of the first six matches. Freshman Dominic Marquez kicked off the evening with a win at 125, over the Renegades' Devan Gutierrez, 12-3, before Daimen Rodriguez earned the Cougars' first pin of the evening against the Renegades' Miguel Gonzales-Barreto in the first period of their match. Bakersfield got on the board when 10th-ranked Brendon Ko beat Cuesta's Mark Bonenberger, but Cuesta claimed each of the next three bouts by Technical Fall to build an insurmountable lead, 25-7. Unranked Freshman Ian Rodriguez dropped down a division to win, 22-5, against #12 Isaih Tuimavave, while 3rd-ranked Grant Eklund, at 157, and 4th-ranked Preston Scharf, at 165, each won by Technical Fall by a score of 16-1. The Cougars battled through the last four matches, but only 4th-ranked Chance Evers earned a win, 5-3, in an upset over #2 Angel Cervantes at 197. Coach Joe Dansby said after the match, "We are focused and want to meet our goals. If people are in our way, we are gonna take'em down." The victory moved the Cougars ' dual record to 7-3 on the season and 4-1 against the SouthEast Conference.
Cuesta's Grapplers head North this weekend for the two-day Lassen Tournament. Lassen, one of five other CCCAA programs nicknamed the Cougars.
