Cuesta Wrestling has almost a two week break before the start of the season's championship events. It all starts on November 15, when the Cougars travel to the SouthEast Conference Championships in Bakersfield. The Cougars have won four of their five dual meets against the circuit; however, the SEC Championship is a tournament format with teams sending multiple grapplers in each weight division. The Cougars finished 6th in 2023 but have won five SEC Titles under Coach Joe Dansby. The CCCAA Regional and State Meets are scheduled for the first and second weekends of December.
The Cougars sent a skeleton squad to Susanville for last weekend's Lassen Tournament and came home with 6th place overall. Freshman Dominic Marquez (pict-L) led the way for Cuesta with a tournament title at 125. Marquez cut through the competition with a 4-0 record and was also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Lightweight Wrestler. He is now one of three Cuesta grapplers to clear the 20-win (22-10) barrier this season, along with Chance Evans (23-4) and Grant Eklund (22-4) Fellow freshmen RJ Fuentes (Pict-R) and Ian Rodriguez and both competed at 149. Fuentes went 3-2, while Rodriguez went 1-2.
