Wrestling earned a Team Bronze when they competed with 11 other teams last Saturday at The Brawl Tournament in East LA. The Cougars travelled with a dozen wrestlers to compete in seven of the ten divisions. Four Cuesta Grapplers advanced into the championship semi-finals, while also picking up two titles. Freshmen Grant Eklund, 4-0, and Preston Scharf (pict), 3-0, claimed titles at 157 and 165, respectively, while Luke Vanbrabant and Daimen Rodriguez rebounded from early losses to claim 3rd and 4th place. Overall, Cuesta's contingent went 21-19 on the mats and moved the team's overall individual bout record to 243-178, which marks the most wins for the Cougars since recording 269 wins in 2015; although the recognized program record of 297 individual victories was set the year before in2014.
Cuesta Wrestling shall enjoy a bye next week as they prepare for a return trip to East LA for the 2024 CCCAA Southern Regional Tournament on December 7. The 2024 California Community College Athletic Association State Championship is scheduled for Lemoore on week later on December 13-14.
