Cuesta Soccer Lands Ten on All WSC Teams
Cuesta Women's Soccer returned to the playoffs for the first time in fifteen seasons and enjoyed its best season in over a decade and a half  as the Cougars spent the entire season in the State rankings and posted a 14-5-2 record on the year.  Late season injuries forced the Cougars to limp into the post-season and miss a chance at the program's first Western State Conference title, however it did not tarnish the Cougars' return to elite status.  Cuesta finished 2nd in the Western State Conference and landed ten players on the 2019 All Western State Conference teams, which tied a program record set in 1996 and tied in 1999.  The Cougars also tied a program record with five first team selections- Martha Mora (Cambria: Coast Union HS), Alley Andrade (Atascadero HS) both repeated on the first team, while Freshmen Beth Andrade (Atascadero HS), Magaly Avila (Paso Robles HS) and, Emma Nushi (Orinda) made their first appearance.  The Cougars jumped out of the gates with a school record seven straight wins to open the campaign and spent nearly the entire season in the State's Top 20, peaking at #11.  The team earned the #14-seed in the 2019 CCCAA Regional Playoffs, but lost a double-overtime game in the first round.

Two-time All-Western State Conference First Team Forward Martha Mora (Cambria: Coast Union HS) holds claim to the title of "Greatest Scorer In Cuesta History".   This year, Mora led the Cougars for the second time with 18 goals and added five assists for a team-high 41 points.  In her two seasons, Mora established new scoring marks for Cuesta Women's Soccer that could stand for generations.  She has compiled 92 career points, on 39 goals and 14 assists, while helping turn around a program that had endured seven straight sub-.500 seasons and not reached the post-season since 2005..
Two-time All-Western State Conference First Team selection Forward Alley Andrade (Atascadero HS) controlled the field for the Cougars and fed the offense.  Andrade led the Cougars with nine assists this season and holds the Cuesta career mark with 21.  Her 33 career points also place her 17th on the Cougars' career list.
Freshman Beth Andrade (Atascadero HS) is Alley's twin sister, but sat out last season.  This year she joined her sibling in the midfield and on the 2019 All-WSC First Team.  The duo had opponents shaking their heads and seeing double.  Andrade bounced from midfield to defense, but still collected eight points on the season with three goals and two assists.
2019 Western State Conference Co-Goaltender of the Year Magaly Avila (Paso Robles HS) is one of the inaugural winners of the WSC's new award.  Avila, an automatic all-WSC 1st teamer, was 10-5-2 in the nets for the Cougars and led the team with 118 saves.  Avila went the distance in ten of the Cougars' dozen WSC contests and recorded all four of her shutouts during conference play.
Freshman Emma Nushi (Orinda) solidified the midfield for the Cougars, but also made a seamless transition to Forward, when injuries threatened the Cuesta's frontcourt.  Nushi ended the season with three goals and two assists, as well as a spot on the 2019 All-WSC First Team.

2018 All-WSC First Teamer Serena Ramirez (Atascadero HS) was joined by fellow veterans Alyssa Vargas (Nipomo HS) and Marina Garcia (Atascadero HS) on the 2019 All Western State Conference Second Team.
Ramirez had established herself as one of the State's premier playmakers and joined Mora as one of the State's Top 20 scorers early in the season, however an injury ended her season in the first round of WSC play.  Ramirez ended the season second behind only Mora with nine goals and 24 points and behind only Alley Andrade with six assists.  She was unable to finish her sophomore campaign, but ranks 9th all time at Cuesta with both 44 career points and 16 goals, while also ranking 7th all time with a dozen assists.
Vargas and Garcia have been defensive mainstays for the Cougars the past two seasons.  They marked some of the best players in the State and helped keep Cuesta's nets clear, while also adding to the offense with big lead passes.  Vargas's powerful left-leg and Garcia's right-leg sent many long balls onto the other end of the pitch.  This season, Vargas added three long range goals and a pair of assists, while Garcia also connected on an assist.

Sophomore Midfielders Ashlee Linane (Arroyo Grande HS) and Casey Dempsey (Atascadero HS) were part of the veteran backbone of the Cougar's line-up and were both accorded all-Western State Conference Honorable Mention.
