Goalies Star in Double Whitewash Against Santa Barbara

Cuesta's Goaltenders Magaly Avila (Paso Robles HS) and Sadie Magpie (Morro Bay HS) combined with Santa Barbara City Keeper Analea Pule to keep the nets clean in a double shutout, 0-0.  The visiting Vaqueros kept the host Cougars on their heels all day, however the Cuesta's "bend, but not break" defense weathered the onslaught.  Avila, the 2019 Western State Conference Goalie of the Year, faced 16 shots in her 45 minutes in the nets and recorded eight saves in the first half, while Magpie recorded 13 saves on 14 shots by the Vaqueros after the intermission.  Pule only faced three shots from Cuesta and recorded both her saves in the second half, however her ability to extend out of the goalbox shut down several of Cuesta best scoring opportunities.  The 90-minute goaltending clinic did tighten up the WSC Standings, which boasts four teams vying for the second spot behind #12 Ventura.  The Cougars are currently in a three-way tie for third place with Moorpark and Allan Hancock, although Santa Barbara City remains directly behind loop-leading Ventura.

The Cuesta Kickers host Moorpark this Friday (4 PM) with a chance to up-turn the WSC Standings and play themselves back into playoff contention.
