Cuesta Women's Soccer is set to open Western State Conference play this week with a pair of games against the circuit. Cuesta travels to Woodland Hills on Tuesday (4 PM) to play Los Angeles Pierce and returns home to host Oxnard on Friday (4 PM). The Cougars ended their 2023 campaign with a loss in Woodland Hills, 6-0, but this year's squad appears to be up to the challenge and has already last year's season win total during pre-conference action. Last year, the Cougars also had a road loss against Oxnard, but earned a tie against the Condors, 1-1, in SLO.
Last week, the Cougars played their final two pre-conference games in Northern California against 2023 CCCAA State Champion Folsom Lake and Sacramento City. Cuesta took a beating against the defending champs on Friday Night, 11-0 but bounced back the next morning to earn a draw against Sac City, 1-1. Freshman Forward Taylor Lynch (pict-R) scored the game's first goal off a pass from Oneal Hunt, but the Panthers were able to earn a tie on a penalty kick in the final minute. Goalkeeper Shae Mansfield (pict-L) post 18 saves on the weekend. The Cougars finished their pre-conference schedule with a respectable 3-2-2 record.
