Kickers Comeback Falls Short on Sophomore Day, 6-3

Cuesta Women's Soccer hosted its final home game of the 2024 campaign against Moorpark, but fell to the Raiders, 6-3.   Prior to the kick-off, the Cougars celebrated their six sophomores in their final home game- Audrie Greene, Gracie Townsend, Keira Becker-Tresky, Payton Grimes, Hailey Hallford and Emmersyn Vegas.  All six sophomores started the contest, including Becker-Tresky, an all-WSC Defender, has been dealing with an injury the past two weeks.  She began the game in nets as the Cougars' goalie and in her collegiate goaltending debut, she was mobile enough to collect a pair of saves, but the visiting Raiders were also able to take an early lead with a pair of goals.   Moorpark added two more goals before the intermission and Cuesta entered the second half trailing, 4-0.  Cuesta's Kickers were down four goals a physical Raiders' squad that was tagged with three yellow cards, but in front of their home crowd that rallied to make a comeback.  The Cougars were able to absorb Moorpark's physical play and crept back into contention with the first two goals of the second half.  Freshman Mikayla Schad came out of the break and immediately put Cuesta on the board in the first minute of the period, while fellow Freshman Payton Lapp cut the Raiders lead in half 15 minutes later, aided by an assist from Taylor Lynch (pict).  Moorpark recovered and rebuilt its halftime lead, with two more goals, however all-WSC Midfielder Hailey Hallford added one more tally for the Cougars with a penalty kick in the closing minutes for a 6-3 final.  Cuesta Women's Soccer is now 4-11-3 on the season, 1-9-1 against a loaded Western State Conference North Division.

Women's Soccer has a bye next Wednesday and completes their 2024 WSC Schedule next Friday (1 PM) against local rival Allan Hancock.  The Bulldogs claimed their first meeting, 6-1, back on October 22 in SLO.
