Swimmers Sweep Sprint Meet

Swimmers Sweep Sprint Meet

Cuesta Men's and Women's Swim & Dive hosted the Cuesta Sprint Meet as a final tune-up for the now cancelled 42nd Cuesta/Arena Swim & Dive Invitational previously schedueld for Friday and Saturday.  Six teams arrived a day early to participate in the Sprint Meet, but Cuesta's men and women both blew away the competition for the win.

The men took first in all six events and compiled 562 of a possible 1,219 points and easily doubled Second Place Bakersfield's 245.5 total points.  2019 Team MVP Satoshi Shinkawa and fellow Sophomore Zachary Tucker (pict) both set new Cuesta standards in the meet.  Shinkawa won the 50-Butterfly in :24.10 to tie Jackson Metcalf's 2018 record, while Tucker broke his own record in the 50-breaststroke with a time :27.63.  The Cougars also got wins from All American Gabriel Browning in the 50-freestyle (:21.30) and Backstroker Steven Chapman in the 50-backstroke (:25.20).

The women faced some tough competition from Bakersfield and Clovis, but won the event with 363 points to outpace the Renegades' 244 points and the Crush's 224 points.  It was a great day for "Sofia's in 1st".  Freshman Sofia Swayne won the 50-butterfly (:24.10) and took second in the 50-freestyle (:21.30), while All American Sofia Terry took the 50-backstroke (:30.42).

The day's victories shall stand as the undefeated Cougars' last event for, at least, a few weeks as the CCCAA has suspended all athletic events until further notice.  The 42nd Cuesta/Arena Swim & Dive Invitational was been cancelled for this Friday and Saturday.
