Kreowski Swims Solo at 2023 WSC Championships

Returning All American Anna Kreowski (pict) was a one-woman team at the 2023 Western State Conference Swim and Dive Championships.  One season after earning All American honors at the 2022 California Community College Athletic Association State Championship, Kreowski was the only member of the team available for the meet, due to various injuries and personal conflicts for her teammates.  The Cougars scoring was doomed without their key relays, but Kreowski comported herself well and battled to post 34 individual points and take 10th place on her own.  She scored just nine fewer individual points than the nine-woman and 9th place team from Pierce.  Kreowski's best finish on the weekend was 6th place (:56.94) in the 100-freestyle, one of the most popular events, which leaves her prospects for a return to the CCCAA State Championships, at best, on the bubble.

Cuesta Women's Swimming, before this season, had only finished outside of the Top 5 in conference once since the program's founding in 1979.  In 2013, the women finished 7th in the Western State Conference, but still finished in the Top 20 at the CCCAA State Championship.  The program's 22 conference titles rank behind only men's water polo (30) among Cuesta's athletic teams.  Entering this season, Women's Swimming had scored in 30 of the past 32 CCCAA State Championships, including 14 Top 10 team finishes.
