Men's and Women's Swimming head to Walnut this Friday and Saturday for the Mt San Antonio Invitational. The event rivals only the Cuesta Invitational, which is set for the first full weekend in March.
Cuesta's men finished 3rd in the event last season, before finished 5th in the State. The women were 14th last season, out of 18 teams, but are stronger this season with a 2nd and 1st in their first two meets.
The Cougars hosted their first Western State Conference Mini=Meet last Friday, with the men taking first and the women claiming Silver as team. Returning Diver Lloyd Esola won a pair of event titles off the planks, while Freshman Grant Huston won the 200-breaststroke (2:08.32) and 1,650-freestyle (16:57.74) to match Esola's titles. Huston also added a pair of Silvers in the 50-freestyle (:22.81) and 50-breaststroke (22.81). Sophomore Conner Rocha missed out on an individual title but bathed in Silver. Rocha took 2nd in the 50-free (:22.78) and 100-butterfly (:55.12).
Freshman Elyse Smith led the women by winning both the 1-meter (179.0) and 3-meter (191.7) events for the teams only titles. In the lanes Freshmen Amelia Braun was the point leader after taking a Silver in the 100-backstroke (1:08.23) and just missed the Bronze in the 500-freestyle (:27.93). Freshmen Annika Pauschek and Kelly Churchill both joined Sophomore Madison Corrigan as all three were just one-point behind Braun. Corrigan earned a Silver in the 100-breaststroke (1:16.99) and took 5th in the 200-freestyle (2:13.63), while Churchill matched her 2nd off the low board (161.75) and 5th in the 50-freestyle (:27.96). Pauschek grinded out a Silver in the 1,650-freestyle (20:25.84) and 5th in the 200-backstroke (2:29.83).
