Cuesta Women's Swimming and Diving battled its way to 4th place at the 2025 Western State Conference Championships. Second-year Coach Rachel Gruetzmacher pushed her Cougars to a four-spot improvement, after finishing 8th in 2024. The women did not boast an individual title in the meet, but did earn a trio of Silvers and five bronze medals. In all, the Cougars posted 15 individual all-Conference swims, while six members of the women's team boasted, at least, one all conference (Top 5) performance.
Returning all-WSC Performer Madison Corrigan was the team's leading scorer and earned all-Conference honors in all three of her events. Her Runner-up finish in the 200-breaststroke was Cuesta's top finish in the lanes and her time of 2:41.36 moved her into the Cougars' all-time Top 5 for the event. Corrigan also added 4th place in the 100-breaststroke and 5th place in the 500-freestyle. She also joined with Freshmen Annika Pauschek and Marcella Fabre as the team's only swimmers to earn all-WSC accolades in all three of their events. Pauschek posted three Top 5 finishes on the day, including a Bronze in the 100-backstroke (1:02.45), 4th place in the 200-backstroke (2:16.15) and 5th place (:25.99) in the highly competitive 50-freestyle. Her backstroke times also cracked the Cougars' All Time Top 10. Fabre became the 10th member of the women's team to ever compete in the 200-butterfly and her time of 2:41.73 earned her 5th place both in the WSC and on Cuesta's All Time Top 10. Fabre also placed with 5th in the 100-butterfly (1:07.05) and 4th in the 100-individual medley (1:10.95). Freshman Kailey Ardouin improved her time in all three of her events. She posted new Cuesta Top 10 marks in the 200-breaststroke (2:43.89) and 400-Individual Medley (5:07.19), however she only earned all-conference honors with her in the breaststroke and 200-IM (2:24.65), due to a surprisingly tough field in the 400 IM. The Cougars also received a heap of points off the planks. Divers Elyse Smith and Kelly Churchill went 2nd and 3rd on both boards, respectively and accounted for 66 of the Cougars' 430 total points.
Cuesta Swimming and Diving shall take the rest of April off to taper for the 2025 CCCAA State Swim & Dive Championships in Santa Rosa on May 1-3.
