Women's Track & Field Takes 2nd at Wildcat Cup

Women's Track & Field has opened the season strong and took second as a team at the prestigious Wildcat Cup.  The Cougars claimed four event titles, while adding one second and four third place finishes.  Harrier Dulce Esquivel earned the Cougars' lone title on the track.  She won the 1500m run (5:07.55), while also taking 3rd in the 800-meters (2:28.11) as an individual and joined the Cougars' 4x400 relay (4:26.14) for another Bronze.  Leaper Eva Kessler cleared 5'1" to easily win another High Jump title, while teammate Elen Zhu posted a career-best leap of 10' 10" to win the Pole Vault.  Freshman Thrower Makaylie Howell continues to be the Cougars' big point winner.  Howell competed and placed in three events at the meet.  She won the Discus with a toss of 122' 0", while also taking 2nd in the Shot Put (34' 10.25") and 5th in the Javelin (92' 7").  

The Cougars will be busy this week with two events scheduled.  Most of the athletes will compete in the Jack Albiani Meet in Modesto on both Thursday and Friday, while the Harriers are scheduled to compete in the Oxy Distance Carnival in Los Angeles on Saturday.
