Women's Track & Field Finds Success With a Split Squad

Women's Track and Field sent part of the team to the elite Mt San Antonio Invitational, part of the team to the Vaquero Invitational at Glendale and Heptathlete Savannah Shoemaker (pict) to Torrance for the 2022 CCCAA Regional Multi-Event Meet.  The Cougars produced eight medal worthy finishes at Mt SAC, including an event title for Dulce Esquivel.  Esquivel dropped seven seconds off her season-best time to win the 800m in 2:20.59, while also taking a Silver in the 1,500m.  Pole Vaulters Elen Zhu and Hannah Quimby both added All Time Cuesta Top 10 marks over the weekend.  Zhu cracked Cuesta most elite Top 10 to claim 9th all time in the Pole Vault after clearing 11-7.75 and Quimby, who also finished 8th in the Pole Vault, took 2nd in the High Jump (5-1), where she ranks 10th all time at Cuesta.  Thrower Makaylie Howell also add a pair of second place finishes in the Shot Put (37-6.5) and the Discus (133-1), the latter of which also moved her into 3rd place all time at Cuesta.  Fellow Throwers Natalia Delgado and Savannah Shoemaker also medaled, while also posting new Cuesta Top 10 marks.  Delgado finished 3rd in the Shot Put with a solid throw of 36-6.25, however her 5th place finish in the Hammer also landed her 6th all time at Cuesta (126-6).  Shoemaker, who spent the first part of the week in Torrance, travelled across the LA Basin to finished 2nd in the Javelin (108-8) at Mt SAC.  Previously, Shoemaker finished 5th at the CCCAA Regional Multi-Event Meet with a score of 3,819 points to qualify for the 2022 CCCAA State Championship in May.  Her points total ranks 3rd all time at Cuesta behind former CCCAA State Champions Riley Cooks (5,110 pts) and Julia Turing (4,232).  She also earned all-Western State Conference Second Team honors.

Cuesta Track & Field takes next week off and will be back in action at the 2022 Western State Conference Preliminaries at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita on April 22.
