Women's Track & Field excelled in every discipline at the non-scoring Moorpark Open. The Cougars were strong on the track, both sprints and distance, in the jumps, both long and high, and with every throwing implement. In the lanes, All State Harrier Dulce Esquivel was the Runner-up in the 5,000-meter run (19:30.76), just 12 seconds off her all-time best, and also finished 5th in 1,500m at 5:14.64. In the sprints, Freshman Ashley Gose finished 7th in the 100m (:13.11), before heading off to the pits. Gose also competed in the Long Jump, where she finished 2nd (16-10.5), while Madeline Scovil and Grace Gutierrez handled the Triple Jump and split the Pole Vault and High Jump. Scovil cleared 9-6.25 to win the Pole Vault and exploded with a leap of 36-10 to blow away the competition in the Triple Jump. Her mark in the Triple Jump ranks 2nd all time at Cuesta and is just 16 inches off Tee Noble's 1998 school record. Gutierrez took 2nd in the High Jump with a leap of 4'9" and was right behind Scovil with 3rd place in the Triple Jump (31' 2"). 2022 Regional Qualifier Anessa Palomino competed in three of the four throwing events. She finished 2nd in the Shot Put (31-2.5), 4th in the Discus (105-0) and 5th in the Hammer (108-3).
The Cougars travel to the Vaquero Open this Friday and Saturday at Glendale College. It is the Cougars' final non-championship competition of the season. The 2023 Regional Multi-event meet is also scheduled for this Tuesday and Wednesday at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, however, due to injuries, the Cougars are not planning to send any competitors to the event.
