Women's Track Qualifies Six Athletes in 11 Events for Regional Finals

Women's Track & Field is loaded for the 2023 CCCAA Regional Finals this weekend in San Diego.  The Cougars are sending a half-dozen athletes to compete in 11 events for the chance to advance to the 2023 CCCAA State Meet next weekend in Modesto.  2022 State Finalist Dulce Esquivel (pict), who finished 5th at the 2022 State Meet in the 1,500m and 9th in the 800m, is back in action this week looking for a return ticket in the 1,500m and 10,000m.  Freshman Elle Casselman is the only other Cougar in the lanes this week.  She qualified 8th in the 800m (2:20.69).  Last weekend, All-WSC Thrower and 2022 Regional Finalist Anessa Palomino, grabbed the 10th spot on Cuesta all-time Top 10 in the Hammer (114-4), but missed the cut for State.  She is looking to earn herself a spot at this year's State Meet with a good showing in both the Hammer and Shot Put this weekend.  The Cuesta Leapers should all book a ticket for the State Meet this week.  Freshmen Madeline Scovil, Ashley Gose and Grace Gutierrez are all favored to advance in their combined six events.  Scovil enters this week ranked 3rd in the Triple Jump (37-11.25), 5th in the Pole Vault (8-8.25) and 8th in the Long Jump (17-1.25), while Gose joins her at 4th in the Long Jump (36-7.75) and 10th in the Triple Jump (37-1.25).  Gutierrez is the Cougars' highest seeded athlete in the finals.  She enters the finals after finishing 2nd in the High Jump, while equaling her season-best mark of 5-1.
