Women's Track & Field Opens Strong at Moorpark with Six New Top 10 Marks

Cuesta Women's Track & Field stormed into last weekend's Moorpark Open ready for action. The even was non-scoring meet featuring athletes from all collegiate levels and professional clubs and the Cougars boasted several top perormers, while also posted six new Cuesta Top 10 marks in the meet.  2023 All State High Jumper Grace Gutierrez led the way as she started higher this year than she finished last Spring.  Her leap of 5'3" moved her into 6th place all-time at Cuesta, just one inch behind Ella Baston's 1978 record of 5'4" and the five other people that have tied her mark over the past 46 years.  2023 Cuesta College Female Athlete of the Year Madeline Scovil (pict) tied for second in the Triple Jump with a solid leap of 36-2.25, while Freshman Rian Hoffman burst onto the scene with a leap of 35-10.75 to take 3rd place.  Hoffman also moved into 5th place on the Cougars' all-time list.   Cuesta Heptathlete Savannah Shoemaker bounced back from her Redshirt season to post a career-best mark of 3,841 points and moved into 3rd all time at Cuesta.  She also moved up to 8th all time at Cuesta after soaring 16-11.25 in the Long Jump.  Freshman Harper Clark  represented the Cougars' Throwers by claiming the 10th spot all-time in the Discus with a toss of 109-3.   

Track & Field is back in action on February 16 at the 2024 Western State Conference Relays.  The annual pre-conference competition is scheduled for Ventura College this year.
