Women's Volleyball Lands Four Players on All-Conference Teams

Women's Volleyball enjoyed a strong season with a solid 13-8 overall record and 3rd place finish in the Western State Conference.  The Despite the Cougars' strong record, they hovered just outside the rankings this season and fell short of the post-season.  Cuesta's season hinged on six losses to eventual playoff teams, three of which went to five games.   The Cougars strong season and narrow miss of a playoff berth was recognized by the Western State Conference as four players earned all-WSC recognition; including first team selection Maddie Honeycutt (Arroyo Grande HS).
2019 All-WSC First Teamer Maddie Honeycutt burst onto the collegiate scene and as a dominant offensive force, however it was her all-around game that elevated the Cougars.  Honeycutt led the Cougars with 286 kills and collected them in bunches.  Her 28 kills against Santa Barbara on October 11 were only one off the recognized school record set by Courtney Carroll in 2003, while her five games with 20 or more kills tied Carroll's program record.    Honeycutt played all the way through the rotation for the Cougars and was second on the team in both digs (165) and aces (34).  Her average of 4.4 points per game ranked 20th in the State and is the tied for 6th all time at Cuesta.
Sophomore Setter Erin Desjardins (Morro Bay HS) has been the Cougars' Captain the past two seasons and was named to the 2019 All-WSC Second Team.  Her 659 assists this season mark the 4th highest season total at Cuesta, while her career total of 972 assists also ranks 4th.  Desjardins was also second on the team with 31 service aces and ends her career ranked 4th for her Cuesta career 70 aces.
Sophomore Middle Blocker Gracie Howley (Watsonville) and Sophomore Libero Vanessa Knevelbaard (Visalia) were both accorded 2019 All-WSC Honorable Mention.  Howley was among the team leaders with 92 kills, 31 assists and, 29 blocks, while her 59 career aces rank 8th all time at Cuesta.  She joined Honeycutt and Desjardins as the only players to compete in every match and every set this season.  Knevelbaard stepped into the Libero roll this year and enjoyed a standout season.  She led the Cougars with 211 digs and was among the team leaders with 33 service aces.
