Spikers Drop Two on WSC Roadtrip, Woodside and Colletti Set New Cuesta Standards

Women's Volleyball was on the road for a pair of Western State Conference matches last week to try and steal a couple of games against the toughest conference in the State.  The six-team WSC-North circuit has only one team under .500 on the season, while boasting two teams in the Top 10 and five teams, including the Cougars, earning votes among the Top 30 out of 90 teams in the State.  The Cougars, after pushing LA Mission to five games in their first meeting, fell to the Eagles (ne Free Spirit) in three games (25-13, 25-18, 25-21) in Sylmar on Wednesday.  Cuesta was also swept at #9 Ventura (27-25, 25-12, 25-14) on Friday.  The setbacks dropped the Cougars to 13-12 on the season, including 2-6 versus the WSC.

The Spikers have one match to focus on during each of the next two weeks. This Friday (6 PM) they host #8 Moorpark, who swept the Cougars in their first meeting, while outscoring them, 75-44.  They end their WSC-North schedule at Santa Barbara next week.

Freshmen Bailey Woodside (pict-R) and Hannah Colletti (pict-L) have been a dynamic duo on the Cougars offense, with Colletti setting them up and Woodside knocking them down.  Woodside broke Courtney Carroll's 2003 standard of 308 kills in a season and now tops the program's leader board with 321, which also places her at 17th on the career list.  Colletti is the Cougars' top setter, but the Southpaw has been lethal from the service line. Last week she broke fellow Morro Bay High Alumnae Christelle Mouret's Cuesta record for service aces.  Mouret landed 51 Aces in 2021, however Colletti took the top spot after dropping the record breaker against LA Mission last week.  She currently leads the Cougars with 53 gems.
