Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for September is Sophomore Spiker Bailey Woodside
Returning All-WSC First Team Outside Hitter Bailey Woodside in back to continue her assault on both the Cougars' opponents and the school record book. Woodside exploded onto the scene last year and crushed the Cougars' single-season Kill record by 57 touchdowns, while also climbing to 3rd on the single season Service Ace list with 50. This year, despite all the Cougars' opponents gearing their defenses to stop her, she has continued her onslaught. She is 7th in the State with 256 total kills and 10th with 4.9 points per set. Last week, Woodside also became Cuesta's all time Kill leader. She pounded out 365 kills as a freshman in 2023 and just became the first Cuesta player to reach 600 career kills (602). Last Friday, on her way to the kill mark, she also landed four service aces against Santa Barbara to break Coach Whitney Meyer's school mark for career service ace (78 to 76).
The Cougars host a non-conference tournament this weekend, but will return to their WSC schedule for the rest of October
