Cuesta Women's Volleyball came out strong in the first set against and stunned #9 Moorpark with a 25-20 victory. The Raiders, who dominated Cuesta in their first meeting in Moorpark by allowing them a total of only 23 points in a three-game sweep, were on their heels to start the night, but were able to recover. Back on their home floor, Cuesta scored more points in the first set, than they did in all three sets in Moorpark (25-23). The stunned Raiders were able to rebound and took the second set in dominant fashion, after opening a 20-10 lead and splitting the last ten points for the win, 25-15. Moorpark claimed the rubber-match, 25-16, to take control of the match however the Cougars almost evened the match in the fourth set but stalled at 15 as the Raiders caught up and pushed on with an 11-2 run for the match-clinching victory, 25-17. The four-set loss dropped the Cougars to 11-14 overall and they remain in 5th place in the WSC-North.
Cuesta Women's Volleyball remains the only sport on campus, since the CCCAA went to a single division, to win a CCCAA State Title (1985 & 1986), but is currently stuck in 5th place WSC-North Division. The WSC-North boasts four teams in both Southern California Region's Top 10 and the State Poll's Top 17 teams, which may open a post-season opportunity for the Cougars, if they finish strong. Cuesta last reached the post-season in 2021, as the 4th place team from the WSC-North. The Spikers shall complete their conference with a trio of matches next week, including a pair on the road. On Wednesday (6 PM) they travel to face local rival Allan Hancock, whom they beat in four games in SLO, but who also ranks three spots ahead of the Cougars in the State's Rating-Points Index. The Cougars also travel to Sylmar on Friday (6 PM) to face #10 LA Mission, which completes their second swing through the WSC-North loop. They conclude their regular season with the WSC Crossover, when the WSC-South team, currently Citrus, that finishes in the same place in their division plays its opposite number. Currently, both the Owls and Cougars sit in 5th place in their division. Cuesta already hosted and beat the Fighting Owls with a sweep on September 25.
