Women's Volleyball battled through a tough Western State Conference (WSC) schedule and finished 5th in a circuit that boasted four regional semi-final teams, including one CCCAA State Final Four participant. The Cougars compiled a 13-16 overall record on the season, which included a 3-9 mark in the WSC-North. Cuesta had five players earn all-WSC recognition: including first team selections Bailey Woodside (Santa Maria: St Joseph) and Madelyn Freeman (Turlock), who was also the WSC's Libero of the Year.
Two-time All-WSC First Team Outside Hitter Bailey Woodside completed her historic career with another assault on the Cougars' record book. She obliterated her own Cuesta record for kills in a season by 131 touchdowns, while finishing 3rd overall in the State. Woodside, who demolished Courtney Carroll 's 2003 mark of 308 by posting 365 kills last season; went to the next level this year with an astounding 496 kills. She, of course, also holds the Cougar's career mark with 861; well past the previous standard of 577 set by two-time all-State Performer Julie Coelho in 2006 and 2007. Woodside's continued assault on the Cuesta record book came on both sides of the net. On defense, her 330 Digs this season placed her 7th all time, while also moving her into 3rd for a career with 606 Digs. On offense, her 43 service aces ranked only second on the team behind current record holder Cayley Brown (Woodland), but also helped push her past current Cuesta Coach Whitney Meyer's decade-old career mark of 76, with a new Cuesta two-year standard of 93 unblemished offerings.
Sophomore Libero Madelyn Freeman earned her spot on the 2024 All-Western State Conference First Team as the Cougars' deluxe defender and the loop's Libero of the Year. Freeman finished 20th in the State with 394 Digs, 3rd all time at Cuesta. Freeman also eclipsed Kristin Sampley's Cuesta record for Digs in a career by 17 saves and set the new mark at 712.
Freshman Outside Hitter Cayley Brown earned all-WSC Second Team accolades as the Cougars' next best offensive option. Brown finished second behind Woodside with 222 kills, while also setting a new Cuesta Record with 68 Service Aces. Brown's new mark broke the record of 54 aces set last season by her teammate Hannah Colletti and she joined a pack of four Cuesta Spikers that have enjoyed a season with, at least, 50 aces, which have all come over the past four seasons. Former Cuesta Player of the Year Christelle Mouret marked the way for Brown, Woodside and Colletti with 51 touchdowns in 2021. Brown's new serving record also moved her into 6th place all-time on Cuesta's career list.
Freshman Middle Blocker Kiera Taylor (Atascadero HS) and Sophomore Setter Alexis Waltz (Pismo beach: Coastal Christian) were both accorded all-WSC Honorable Mention. Taylor led the Cougars with 90 blocks and was third on the team with both 90 kills and 42 service aces, while finishing out the Fall playing on both Cuesta's volleyball and basketball teams. Waltz stepped into a starting role for her final season with the green and black. She dished out 306 assists to lead the Cougars' attack and added 159 digs on defense.
