Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for November is Sophomore Libero Madelyn Freeman
Sophomore Libero Madelyn Freeman earned her spot on the 2024 All-Western State Conference First Team as the Cougars' deluxe defender and the loop's Libero of the Year. Freeman finished 20th in the State with 394 Digs and posted the third highest single season total at Cuesta. She also ended her career as the Cougars' all-time best defender. Her 712 career digs eclipsed Kristin Sampley's (2001-02) turn of the century total of 695 career digs. Coach Whitney Meyer said, "Maddy was a vital component of our team this season. She saved so many points with her amazing coverage skills. She read the opponents' offense and made key defensive moves. Maddy is committed, driven and an absolute joy to coach." Off the court and in the classroom, Freeman was honored as a member of the 3C2AWVCA Academic All-State Team.
Women's Volleyball battled through a tough Western State Conference (WSC) schedule and finished 5th in a circuit that boasted four regional semi-final teams, including one CCCAA State Final Four participant. The Cougars compiled a 13-16 overall record on the season, including a 3-9 mark in the WSC-North.
