Cuesta Women’s Polo Lands 5 on WSC Teams Bell Named All American

Women's Water polo reached the playoffs for the third straight year and posted 18-15 record on the season.  The Cougars played in the State's toughest conference and were one of five teams from the Western State Conference to reach the post-season.  The Cougars fell in the first round of the CCCAA State Playoffs to Cerritos, 9-6.  The team was well represented on the all-conference teams and five Cuesta players earning All Western State Conference honors, led by All America selection Tina Bell (Atascadero HS).

All American Goalie Tina Bell dominated the State during her sophomore campaign.  She was named to the 2019 Western State Conference First Team, all-Region Second Team and earned All America honors.  She led the State with 368 saves and is 22nd in the State with 49 steals for more than 400 stops on the season.  She was also 4th in the State with 18 wins and 6th with a 62.1 save percentage.  Tina is also all over the Cougars' all-time lists.  She ranks 2nd all time in both saves (603) and save percentage (62.4%), as well as 48th for career steals (56) and, amazingly for a goaltender, 17th for career assists (51).  Tina was named the Cougars' 2019 Team MVP.

2019 All Western State Conference Second Team selections Tori Blanchard (Hanford) and Sadie Emmitt (Agoura Hills) were both crucial to the Cougars' success at both ends of the tank.  Blanchard enjoyed a standout freshman season and made an immediate impact at the collegiate level.  She was the Cougars' leading scorer with 67 goals and also drew a team-high 44 exclusions.  Emmitt, who was an all-WSC Honorable Mention choice as a freshman, was a leader for the Cougars on both ends of the tank.  She was second on the team with 46 goals and became only the second player in Cuesta history to dish out 50 assists in a season. She ranks 4th all time at Cuesta with 83 career assists and 8th in exclusions drawn (65).
Freshmen Carly Billinger (Nipomo HS) and Madi Hermesch (Arroyo Grande HS) were both accorded Western State Conference Honorable Mention for their all around play.  Billinger netted 39 goals and dished out 33 assists and drew 37 exclusions to lead the offense, while adding 45 steals on defense.  Hermesch came off the bench to score 43 goals and added 20 assists and 33 steals.
