Women's Water Polo Drops Campus Opener to FPU

Cuesta Women's Water Polo became the first team to compete on Cuesta College's campus since March 13, 2020.  The Cougars hosted Fresno-Pacific University, but were outmatched against the four-year school and fell, 21-3.  The Cougars and Sunbirds both played their entire rosters in the game, which was a benefit to both teams.  The Sunbirds came to Cuesta after openning their season with a trio of lopsided losses against the NCAA's Top 10, so the big win over the Cougars should boost their spirits down the road.  The Cougars looked strong in spurts, but communication and the physicality of an actual game, after months of practice, put them on their heels early and behind on the scoreboard.  2018 All-WSC Driver Caitlin Luster and 2019 All-WSC Driver Tori Blanchard played in their first game together and each assisted on the other's goal.  Freshmen Kaia Parker and Monique Camacho connected on the Cougars final goal, with Parker of Arroyo Grande getting the assist from Camacho of Nipomo.  Freshman Goaltender Morgan Weldon posted three saves in her first collegiate game.  The Aqua-Cats expect to bounce back for their next game at Santa Clara in three weeks.
