Cuesta College is hosting the 2022 Western State Conference Tournament this Friday and Saturday and both the top-seeded men's team and the 3rd-seeded women's team are chasing each a title and chance to improve their playoff chances. The women, who knocked off #6-seed Santa Monica on Wednesday, faced #2-seed Ventura in the semi-final but fell 8-7. The Cougars, who previously lost to the Pirates by six and seven goals, pushed the game to the end. Ventura, as expected, jumped out to a 5-2 lead at halftime, but the Cougars rallied after the intermission. After the intermission Returning Freshman Chloe Porter took over the game. Porter scored four of the Cougars' five second-half goals, including tying the game at 7-7 with 2:18 left on the clock. The Cougars had a chance to tie it the final seconds but had two shots ricochet off the goal and lost, 8-7.
The loss drops the Cougars to 13-14 on the year and they will face the #4-seed Citrus in tomorrow's WSC Third place game (11 AM).
