Women's Polo Comes Together Over Four-day, Six-Game Roadtrip

Cuesta's Women Poloists emerged from an almost three-week hiatus from competition, which included three forfeit losses, to post a 4-2 record last week and announce their intent to return to the post-season.  On Wednesday, the Cougars' slow start, down 4-1 after ten minutes of play, at Los Angeles Valley allowed the Monarchs to hold on for a Western State Conference (WSC) win, 9-7.  However, the Cougars were across the city and back in form on Thursday at Santa Monica. The "Big Cats" thrashed the host Corsairs, 16-1, to pick up their first win of the season against the WSC circuit.  Cuesta remained in the greater LA area on the weekend with two days and four more games at the Battle at the Beach in Long Beach.  The Cougars opened against their host and were in peak form as they fell to 7th-ranked Long Beach City, 8-7.  After the setback to the host Vikings, the Cougars rolled with a season-best three-game, winning streak by posting victories over Grossmont, 14-6, #10 Miramar, 12-11 in overtime, and #7 Golden West, 7-6.  Their final win over the Rustlers also served as a measuring stick and a bit of payback, as the Cougars opened the 2023 campaign with a loss to Golden West, 12-7, in SLO.  The strong week improved the Cougars' overall record to 11-13, while their quality wins also moved them back into playoff contention.

The Poloists complete their regular season with two games this week.  On Wednesday (1 PM), the Cougars conclude their regular season Western State Conference schedule at Citrus College in Glendora.  Cuesta College Men's and Women's Water Polo teams shall also host their Alumni this Saturday (Noon) for a final tune-up before the 2023 Western State Conference Tournament begins back in Van Nuys at LA Valley College on the first weekend of November.
