Women's Water Polo Ends Season at Playoffs

Women's Water Polo reached the playoffs for the sixth straight season and picked up the program's first playoff victory since 2017.  The Cougars earned the 7th-seed in the tournament and began the post-season with a play-in game against #10-seed Ventura.  The Cougars and Pirates are both members of the Western State Conference and played the previous week in the WSC Tournament's 3rd place game.  The Cougars claimed the WSC Bronze, 11-9, but the Pirates were still a threat and had claimed their earlier meeting, 10-9, a month earlier.  The Cougars were also without injured all-WSC Goalie Aubrie Kirkby Tatro, so Freshman Donnella Wood stepped in to make only her third appearance and first start of the season in the playoffs.  Wood helped lead Cuesta to victory, 11-9, while making eight saves, as seven players scored for the Cougars, including Freshman Driver Amelia Braun with a team-high three goals.  Cuesta advanced to the CCCAA Regional Quarterfinals on Friday against #2 Riverside; the only team the Cougars' have never beaten.  The Tigers claimed another "catfight" against the Cougars, 18-6, and advanced to the CCCAA State Championships, while Cuesta closed out the season with a 20-13 overall record.

Note- Post-season honors shall be announced after the conclusion of the 2024 CCCAA State Championships
