Women's Cross Country Pulls Off Near Sweep in Opener

The Cuesta Harriers enjoyed their lone competition of the season at the College of the Sequoias Cross Country Invitational in Visalia last Saturday.  The Cougars and the host Giants, from College of the Sequoias, were the only two teams in the meet.  Freshman Julia Voss (SLO HS) opened the day as the Women's Race Champion.  Voss cleared the five-kilometer course in just 20:16.8 and won by almost five seconds.  After the lead Giant followed Voss across the line, fellow Freshman Emily Mathein (Paso Robles HS) led the rest of the Cougars' pack to the finish.  Mathein took 3rd place (20:31.7), while 2019 ALL-WSC Harrier Shannon Ferrall (Arroyo Grande HS) and Freshman Jessica Schroeder (Atascadero HS) finished 4th(20:56.9) and 5th (21:29.8), respectively.
