Women's Cross Country sent Harriers Dulce Esquivel and Paige Medrano to the 2022 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Meet at Fresno's Woodward Park last weekend. Esquivel finished 29th and Medrano landed in 44th place in the 155-woman event. Esquivel, a two-time State Qualifier, improved five places from her 34th place in 2021 to 29th place (19:31.6) last weekend, while also clipping 29 seconds from her 2021 time. She also earned all-State Honorable Mention (Top 28-42) for the second straight season. Medrano finished 44th (20:02.1) and just missed both the 19-minute marker and all-State recognition by two seconds and two spots. However, she joined Esquivel with a Top 30 spot among Cuesta's all-time State list (est. 1996).
Esquivel enjoyed her sophomore season and led the Cougars in six of their seven starts, but the 2021 All-WSC First Teamer was relegated to the loop's second team this season, partially due to her teammate. Medrano took 11th overall at the Western State Conference Meet, the only time she led Esquivel this season, and a spot on the conferences first team, which moved Esquivel off the first team and onto the second team. Teammate Adrienne Frere earned all-WSC Honoable Mention, but did not qualify for the post-season as an individual.
