Cuesta Women's Cross Country opened the 2023 season at home with the Tour De Cuesta at Fairbanks Cross Country Course. The Cougars fielded only two harriers for the seven-team race, however both landed in the Top 5. First-year runners Elle Casselman (pict) and Summer Gelman finished 2nd (20:38.8) and 4th (22:06.7) in the 5-kilometer race. Casselman, who was a 2023 CCCAA State Track & Field Finalist in the 800-meters, also established herself as State Meet contender in cross country by posting the 18th fastest time ever by Cuesta Harrier on the Fairbanks Course. Casselman's time was just a single second behind the marks of former Cougars Corinne Evans and Erin McNulty, who also hold the 8th and 16th fastest State Meet times on record for a Cuesta Cougar.
The Cuesta Harriers are back in action next Friday at the Moorpark Invitational. The early morning race begins at 9 AM on September 1 and includes a tour of the Moorpark College campus.
