Cuesta Finishes 9th in 18th Meathead Mover Invitational- Quirie Wins Title

Cuesta hosted the 18th Annual Meathead Mover Wrestling Invitational with 13 teams competing in the one-day event.  Top-ranked Mt San Antonio edged #2 Cerritos, 131.5 to 122, to take the tournament title, while #6 Bakersfield climbed a few notches to claim the team Bronze.  The host Cougars finished 9th overall and boasted three place winners, including 165-Champion Humphrey Quirie (Tuolumne- pict).  Quirie also took home the tournament's Outstanding Upper Division Wrestler Award after winning three of his four bouts by Fall.  Mt San Antonio's Christopher Betancourt collected the Outstanding Lower Division Wrestler Award, with a Fall and a pair of Major Decisions, while his teammate Wetzel Hill earned the Meathead Award of Excellence and won the 174-title.  Bettancourt and Wetzel were the only Mounties to claim a title, but six Mt SAC grapplers reached the semi-final to seal the team win.  Cerritos won a tournament-best three division titles with Felix Osorio (149), Daniel Bracamontes (157) and Jonovan Smith (285) each bringing home a trophy.

Cuesta Wrestling's next event is the 2021 SouthEast Conference Tournament on November 13 in Lemoore, however, the Cougars are also trying to confirm a make-up date for their postponed SEC Dual with Moorpark.  In addition to Humphrey Quirie's (Tuolumne) title, Sophomore Jacob Yamaguchi (Kapolei HS, HI), at 149, and Freshman Gabe Carrillo (Simi Valley), at 165, each earned 4th place for the Cougars.
